Kelly Tarlton's

"Kelly Tarlton's is a wonderland of snow, ice and amazing underwater sights". Sounds great, doesn't it? They have penguins there, stingrays, sharks and much more. Which is why it's so expensive. And it's far out, too. If I had known how far exactly, I wouldn't have walked. Well, maybe I would, but I would have been prepared. Anyway, it didn't rain and it was a pleasant walk. The 256 MB memory card in my camera was full when I returned home. Most of the photos I took were wiggly and underexposed, but the videos will make for a beautiful screensaver.
The picture on the right is one of the better ones. Normally, the fish were phlegmatic and didn't move much. Until they got fed, that is. You can't really tell, but in the picture, they surround a scuba diver who is bringing them food.

There was also a small exhibition about Scott Base, New Zealand's research base in Antarctica. I'd love to work there for a while.

Oh, one more thing. If you don't like to read about stupid parents, skip this paragraph. Okay, here we go:
Some people are not cut out to be parents. Definitely not. There was this mother with her four year old son standing next to the stingray tank. When you're a four old kid, stingrays are bigger than you and quite intimidating. So what would you do, if you were that kid? You'd want to get out there, wouldn't you? And if you were his mother? You'd go with him, right? Well, Mrs. Mother of the Year at Kelly Tarlton's decided to pat his head instead and share a few words of the wise, like "they cannot harm you, they're in a fish tank", for example. So far so good, but then the small boy started to cry. He was scared shitless, but she wouldn't let him leave. So I left. De-escalation at its best. Why not let her work on Scott Base for a while?

That's what I did when I came back to the hostel:

I ate Vegemite. Eww!

Later that same day, C.T., Richard and I watched Johnny English. C.T. and I did, anyway. Richard fell asleep after five minutes or so. It was his DVD, so he probably saw it before. If I liked the movie? Well... I could tell you, but then I'd have to kill you.
