Auckland!
I'm in Australia! I'll say it again, just for the fun of it: I am in Australia! I've never been to Australia before! Okay, I'm not allowed to leave the airport, and maybe that's why I probably won't see any Kangaroos, but that's okay, really. I am almost as far away as one can get from Germany, and right now, I have no idea whatsoever what my worries were all about.
These two days don't make me an experienced tourist yet, but it's save to say that I like flying. You have a great view, a lot of spare time and beautiful women bring you food and drinks. That's almost like Heaven for a day! Oh, and I still haven't slept. Chances are I'm going to hate myself tomorrow (today, I mean), but hey, you gotta try it before you can complain about it, right? I'll definitely try to sleep on the last part from Melbourne to Auckland. If they don't have new movies, that is.

Now I'm in Auckland. The last part of the trip took roughly three hours, and I only slept 30 minutes. I went to the hostel right after the plane landed and my scuba diving gear had been checked. Then I took a shower, checked my mails and found out that I will have at least two appointments with recruiting agencies. Sweet!
As soon as I had arrived at my final destination, I let my guard down and therefore got lost. Twice.
First on the stairs, because I didn't want use the lift for only four floors. Unfortunately the stairway was equipped with one-way doors for emergencies only. So once the door was closed, I couldn't get in again. On the way out I found the laundry room and the room where the entire communication of the hostel is channelled. I couldn't help but think of yesterday's Bruce Willis movie, hehe. I also couldn't help thinking that the escape routes were far too narrow for all these guests!
My second "detour" started directly after that. I went to McDonalds to get some food to go (junkfood, I know... sorry mom!). I didn't even try to remember the turns I took, but at some point, I knew I couldn't just turn around and walk back on my track. But of course, I had my map with me, so I was not in trouble.
First impressions of Auckland:
- Quite small for a big city (> 1 million people). With a backpack, sneakers and average fitness, it's possible to see everything that's interesting in three days. Which is what I'm going to start with tomorrow.
- Auckland looks remarkably similar to any other bigger city I've seen.
- The biggest must-see seems to be Sky Tower. It's huge and impressive, but at night it's pink. Eww. It's also the highest bungee jump in New Zealand (192 meters).
- The percentage of Asians, namely Koreans, is much higher than in Europe. Almost one out of five restaurants serves Asian Noodles.
