2008-01-14 Left-Handed Shopping

Still no Internet in my apartment. The guy from Telecom was here today, but he only switched on the landline. Took him about five minutes, for which I had to come all the way from work and back again. The modem is supposed to come by courier, but there only was a modem-shaped vacuum at my doorstep when I came back from work this evening. Maybe tomorrow.

While buying food at Pak'n save ("if your final bill seems low, do not panic, remain calm, this is normal.") I realized that driving on the left side of the road also applies to shopping cart. I'm not even going to try driving on the real road before I haven't figured out how not to be in everybody's way while I'm shopping.
Speaking of which: It'll take me a few more weeks before I know my way around this huge food store, but then I'm going to work my way through all the cook books I scanned before I came here. The plan is not to eat the same thing twice in February. That's not as easy as you might think, because (a) I'm kinda lazy and (b) 2008 is a leap year.

Reading: Yesterday I started Flatland: A Romance of Many Dimensions. It's like Gulliver's Travels for mathematicians. Which means that it's good.

Ah, the one from the wise old square! Good decision. I remember lending it from my math teacher back at school. Along with a recommendation for Lem (he read one of the robot fairy tales for us, as far as I remember).
