2008-01-21 The Gimp

Two weeks, and I haven't completely unpacked yet. Today, for example, I "found" my Wacom tablet. Finding the correct driver turned out to be difficult enough, but obviously, FT-0405-U0B is just a nerdy way to say Volito. So at least there was one available online. Next I took pictures of myself (ewww, I hate that!) and gimped them. Because, unlike Photoshop, it's absolutely free. Here's the result. I should have removed the pimple and applied a few more filters, but you can only do so much to improve a face, so why bother ;-)

The other thing I did today (aside from work, of course) was yet another timelapse video. I was going to post my favorite 10 seconds, when the lower clouds went away to reveal the upper layer, which is whiter and faster. Unfortunately, Windows Movie Maker cannot load the .avi file I created, although VLC can play it without problems. Movie Maker sucks and I'm too lazy to google the codecs. In a few months, when I collected enough clips, I'm going to make another YouTube video. Best of Office Window.

Hi Marc! Mindy here (you may have heard my name at Jade... hopefully they haven't forgotten about me already!). Lyndy Loo sent me your blog link and it's so interesting reading it - due to the parallels in our lives. You moved all the way across the world to NZ, I moved from NZ. All the little things you'll be getting used to, probably the things I miss!

Congrats on fixing your first bug! I probably wrote it hehe. Bet I get blamed for all the bugs now, that's what always happens when someone leaves.

Take Care

Kia ora, Mindy!

You're the one who's working for the customer, but still gets paid by Jade, right? ;-)

Like saying "thank you" to the bus driver, for example. Kiwis are awfully nice people! I'm totally looking forward to getting used to it!

About the bug: It's probably been there for ages and I only noticed it by accident. So much for the importance of my work :-D
