2008-02-26 I Can Has Hystery
When it comes to TV and movies, I'm kinda picky. I don't like westerns. Not anymore. I don't like films about sinking ships. Titanic was kinda okay, but there are a hell of a lot of films that show nothing but people getting wet and die. Speaking of which, I don't like war movies. Oliver Stone and stuff like that, it's not for me. And don't even get me started on German so-called comedies! The good thing is, I can avoid all that. If it's called Sheriff of Full Metal Sinking Ship (Ger), I don't have to watch it.
When it comes to my absolute pet peeve, things are a little different. It's hysteric people. I can't stand hysteric people on TV. Not in the news (leave 'em alone, don't you think they have enough problems as it is?), not in fiction. Why would anyone want to have hysterics in their movies, anyway? They don't have witty lines, they aren't exactly pretty, and they annoy the hell out of me.
Maybe they're just there to give the hero a chance to calm them down and tell them everything will be alright. So they might be useful, but I still don't like them. Mothers are the worst. I recently saw an episode of MacGyver where a divorced father kidnapped his child. The mother literally freaked out. It was one of the worst episodes ever. Argh!

Two random factoids about New Zealand!
- Car insurance: not compulsory. Your car, your crash, your problem. You can get insured, of course, but most people decide not to be. Maybe that's why they're all such relaxed drivers.
- Old age pension scheme: almost inexistent. Well, not anymore. Last year they introduced Kiwi Saver, but it's laughed at. Strange, huh?
