2008-02-08 Shadows
Finally, I figured out what it is that confuses me so much about my living room. It's not the chimney. I've had a chimney before and I'm looking forward to setting stuff on fire in winter. It's not the two sofas, either. One person, but two sofas. What a waste (I'm currently sitting on the one, while my laundry lies on the other). Okay, here it comes: it's how the shadows move in the other direction.
Maybe I should go a little into details here. Consider a stick or a tall tree on the northern hemisphere. As the sun goes from the east to the west during the day, the shadows seem to move clockwise. In the middle of the day, the sun is in the south, casting shadows towards the north.
Here in New Zealand, things are a little different. As you probably know, we're all walking on the ceiling here. At noon, the sun is in the north, casting shadows towards the south. All in all, shadows move counterclockwise.
It didn't give me sleepless nights, but since I came here I had this feeling that something is different. Something that I couldn't put my finger on. Now I know it! I'm one of these day dreamers, you know. Sitting there and staring a hole in the air makes one aware of such details.

Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds wake in the day to find that all was vanity; but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act their dream with open eyes, and make it possible.
[T. E. Lawrence]
Well, I did. Still do. What's so dangerous about it?

Random thought that popped into my mind as I typed the above: I want to learn Tai Chi.
