2007-02-07 Eclipse

You can't really tell from the picture, but today there's been a partial solar eclipse in New Zealand. In the afternoon, 53 percent of the sun have been covered by the moon. Not enough to make it look like night, but surely enough to make it sufficiently spooky. Birds didn't go to sleep, though. Here's a somewhat better picture.

I wish I would have known earlier, it would have made for an excellent time lapse video.

As chance wills it, unbeknownst to Marc, silently the day before an asteroid named 1998WG24 eclipsed a star designated UCAC2 39983940, quite an impressive spectacle actually, depending on your state of mind, location and species, but alas, Marc missed it. Another great chance for creating a time-lapse video irretrievable gone.

Sepp! Why didn't you tell me earlier?!? I happen to be a big fan of both 1998WG24 and the entire UCAC2 system! Not quite as romantic as the PI314 galaxy, but still a good place to get a cheap gargle blaster.
Next time drop me a line before an event of such cosmic significance, please!
