2008-02-14 Happy Valentine's Day!

Valentine's day in Germany is no big deal. Everybody seems to be completely aware that it's a commercial thing, so they ignore it. Here in New Zealand, things are a little different. If you don't give your woman at least one rose on Valentine's Day, you're a jerk. If you go by the girls in the office, that is.

In other news, I managed to destroy one hour worth of work, because I "published" in the wrong direction. Instead of copying a method from the dev environment and pasting it into the testing/production environment, I did it the other way round. Which is downright stupid. And I even didn't notice it myself, because it miraculously compiled. I'm really good at being stupid.

The Ubuntu DVD arrived. Looks great! Now all I need to do is backup my hard disk (burn 12 DVDs? use PC at work? we'll see...) and find out how to get the sound card on my notebook working with Linux. Then I can throw away Windows. Except for an installation on a virtual machine, of course. Just in case.

This evening's discovery: Beautiful. Loud. Smaller than I thought. Sounds like I'm describing the latest prima donna, but it's actually my first impression of SOL Square. Why are people attracted by loud noise? Don't they want to talk to each other?

I recommend an external hard drive. They're amazingly inexpensive considering they hold GB's or TB's of data. Then again, you probably know that yourself.

I have one. It's full. And I'm poor. *sigh*
