"Smile", I said. "I'm going to make you famous." And they did. And I made. In a way. Here they are, the stars of the day. I will introduce them to you clockwise.
Craig (the guy with the green shirt and the sunglasses). Today was his last full time day, next week he's going back to university. Why he traded heaps of money for heaps of boring lectures remains his secret.
Anca. She's from Bulgaria Romania and likes to party. That's pretty much everything I know. Her office is across the street, so we can't talk during work.
Keryn. Salsa. These two are almost synonym. As I understand it she competes on quite a high level. And she has lots of stories to tell about the other dancers. Hee.
Lynda. She might look harmless, but she's a geek. There's a portable hurricane on her desk, for example. Her hobby is to say my names five times in a row, using five different pronunciations.
Jiri (phonetic spelling: Yirka). He's from the Czech Republic and started one week after me. When he came to New Zealand he used three of the twenty kilo luggage allowance for his climbing rope.
Tino. He's the other German guy. Well, actually he's been here much longer, which makes me the other one. But anyway, he's from Germany, too.
Dale. Cool dude. When I told him about my sound driver trouble, he said "that's why I don't use distributions." Now that is hardcore.

Not fair! I want fish and chips on the lawn in the sun (fish and chips here are gross - they cook them before you order them, and I don't mean they're mind readers - I mean everything is sitting there congealing waiting to be bought and the chips get all lumped together and soggy as!).
Nice to put some faces to the names :)
Hi Marc, What I know, Anca is from Romania. But according to your geographic knowledge, it's probably the same, isn't it? :)
Keryn!!! I remember dancing with one of the preciously few NZ Salseras at the UK Salsa Congress, back in 2004. Must have been her. I am certain. No doubt. Kindly ask her if she's going to attend the Pacific Congress (April, Wellington)...
Stefan.
PS. I have a new project. I started tracing back my ancestry to Pharaoh Sethos I. As the outcome is already decided, only the exact lineage remains in dispute. There may be some surprises in store for a gaggle of ignorant historians. On the Egyptian side, I already got as far as Theophano (wife of Otto II.), but I seem to be stuck at my great-grandparents. Any help?
Mindy:
You should find comfort in the fact that you will be able to sit on the lawn long after we had to go back inside because our summer ended. Your time will come!
Jirka:
Errr... maybe. So Bulgaria and Romania is not just two words for the same country? Oh! *blushing*
Stefan:
Sure, I'll ask her. About your ancestry research: Are you aware that this is bidirectional path tracing? You should ask Thomas about this! Too bad you cannot use Monte Carlo sampling in this particular case. But if everything else fails you can still go back to the diffuse term.
i look harmless, really? ha ha ha ... even with a chippy hanging out of my outh ... chippy ... chippy ... chippy ... chippy ... hey you didnt tell everyone your new nickname! :D
And Keryn competes in Ballroom dancing and Latin ... she's only just take up Salsa :)
I'm just impressed you remembered all of our names!! ;)
Usually I try to reply to all my blog comments, but I decided to simply ignore this one, 'cause I don't like this silly nickname of mine.
Dangit!
