Simple And Funny

Something simple: Today's word of the day is criminal. It's not a particularly exciting word, but my mom happens to use it to refer to things I would describe as difficult, complicated or tense. The German social security system, for example. When you're young you pay for the old people, and when you're old, the young people pay for you. Obviously, it's bound to fail if there are more old than young people, which is exactly what's wrong with Germany nowadays. Anyway, today my mom called it criminal. She didn't mean to indicate any indictable offense, she just meant it's complicated.

Something funny: I do not know the name of my neighbor, and I've only spoken a few words with him last summer. He seems to be a nice guy, but we rarely meet because he's a model citizen and employee and I'm... well... I march to a different drummer. So when he saw me putting a piece of furniture in the trunk of my car, he came over for a little chat. He asked if I have to move out because my tenants sold the house (which I don't), if I move to another house in the area (which I won't) and where I'm going instead. I said New Zealand, and he gave the traditional response: "Shit! Really? Wow... cool!". Who would have thought that moving out is a good way to get to know the neighbors...
(I hope he's not the one to whose wlan I sometimes invite myself. Hehe...)
