Ratatouille

"Let's make a film about rats in the kitchen. A children's film." That's what one of the people at Pixar must have said when they came up with the idea of Ratatouille. "Yeah, right. Security! Escort the drunk guy to the door, please." That's how I would have reacted. But obviously the idea worked, which is why I'm a code monkey and the Pixar staff is a bunch of geniuses.
So today I went to see it with Thomas. We both liked it very much, laughed a lot and left the cinema very hungry. In Germany, all foreign movies are dubbed, so I cannot say anything about the original voices, but the guy who dubbed Peter O'Toole was a perfect match! (Embarrassing enough, I don't know his name...)
Please don't expect a balanced review here, because when it comes to Disney, Pixar or Star Wars, I become the perfect subject -- made of pure acceptance and no criticism whatsoever.

The weirdest feeling I had today was when the movie was over and I suddenly realized that I hadn't payed any attention to special effects. And let's face it, it was animated and therefore nothing but special effects. But honestly, I wasn't aware of that when the story line captivated me. It made me think back when my old girlfriend and I saw Monsters, Inc.. She was like "awww... Boo is so cute!", and I was like "wow... they really rendered every single hair in high-res!". Well, guess what: Remy (the rat) also had hair, but this time I didn't consciously realize that it was rendered. I guess my CGI days are over.
