The Plot Thickens

At work I spent one or two hours trying to get data from some old hard disks to my new one. It was a bitch because Windows 2000 doesn't know NTFS (which is totally strange because it should!) and Windows XP wouldn't boot without online registration. So Sascha burned me a Ubuntu boot CD. Ubuntu has other file system issues: umlaute. As soon as the path contains a single umlaut, the file cannot be copied. So much for escaping windows problems by using Unix derivatives (pun, I know). I copied enough to help me through the day, but I'll have to do better tomorrow.

After work I met with Thomas to talk about my New Zealand plan of action. I'm not half as worried anymore now. In fact we solved my problems quickly enough to go the the Simpsons movie afterwards. It wasn't a masterpiece, but it wasn't bad, either. I'd recommend it because there are so many small jokes build in for the watchful observer. The only bad thing about it is that it's too short.

Back to my New Zealand problem: I decided to re-arrange my vacation and take three weeks off in October. I'm going to spend these three weeks in New Zealand doing as many job interviews as I can. Also, in order to make it worth my while, I'm going to take my scuba diving gear with me.
I think I started to realize what it actually means to give up everything and start a new life. It's easier said than done, but I'm going to do it anyway.
