2007-05-12 Great Minds Think Alike

The IELTS test was okay, I think, but waiting two weeks for the result is annoying. As usual, my nervousness stopped as soon as the test started. I only wish I had slept longer. I woke up at 5 o'clock in the morning, then again at half past five, at six, at half past six and at seven. When my alarm clock went to work at half past seven I almost overslept, but for safety my parents called me on the phone just when I was brushing my teeth. Perfect timing ;-)
(I slept upstairs in my old room which is now my father's office. Hence the phone.)

After the test I wanted to meet Sonja, who also had a test today. We planned that for almost one month, but decided to be "spontaneous" about it. As a matter of fact, we both did the same thing: we waited for our phones to ring. When I was back at my parents place, I sent her an SMS from the internet (I'm such a cheapskate!), to which she didn't reply. With my second SMS I managed to make her call me, but it's just not the same as meeting. When I promised to invite her to my farewell party, she was kind enough to remind me that I should not plan too far ahead, as I might fail the IELTS test or find no job in New Zealand.
That's why talking on the phone is not the same as actually meeting someone. If we had met, I would have stepped on her toe for that.

I'm sure I've never asked you this, but why New Zealand?

To be honest, I don't know. It just came over me. But if you like, you can pick one of these:
1) There's no way I can put more distance between where I am now and where I'm trying to go. It's a temptation I just cannot resist. New Zealand is to me what Fiji is to Truman.
2) There's a lot of sheep in New Zealand. (good line, once again I wish it was my own)
3) Why not?

Why not?! You could be attacked by a roving band of hobbits! That's why not!
