2007-03-15 Galvanic Isolation

Word of the day: galvanic isolation. It means that electrons cannot pass from one conductor to another, i.e. there is no electric connection. However, information and energy can still be transported, e.g. by means of capacitance, induction, light or mechanical work.
Hating your job doesn't mean you cannot learn anything.

Talking about jobs: Last weekend I first heard about Second Life. As a fan of science fiction, I know Tad Williams' Otherland. What I didn't know was that they are currently working on it. It's a virtual universe where you can buy virtual land, live in a virtual house and do the virtual equivalent of almost everything that can be done in real life. Additionally, it offers job opportunities such as hug maker (what's that?) and pet manufacturer. Yeah right. Pet manufacturer. O brave new world that has such people in it.

Yesterday was Pi Day (3/14), and I missed it. I'm such an idiot!
Okay, I didn't actually miss it. I got up early, went to work, went home, went to see my diving trainer, went home, chatted a little and went to bed. I did a lot of things. But I didn't think of it. No celebration, no cake, no party, no nothing. Not even alcohol. I'm such an idiot.
That won't happen on Towel Day. Scout's honor.

Talking about diving: What I actually meant is "scuba diving", I just looked it up. Today was my first theory lesson. Theory will be rather simple, I guess. But practice isn't cheap. Not even close.

And I applied for a job at the National Bank of New Zealand. I was in a hurry, so I used an online application site, but next week I'm going to write a cover letter to my CV and sent it there via snail mail. Wish me luck!
