2007-03-20 About Keys And TV
The following paragraph will be totally boring, even for my standard. Skip it if you are not one of these people that think a bunch of keys can be interesting, because that's what this paragraph is all about. These are the keys I carry around with me (clockwise, starting from the snap hook): bike lock, mailbox, front door, office door, apartment door, car.
The apartment key is a particularly simple one, and I believe the lock can be picked using a bent wire. I have one in my basement, in case I lock myself out. Of course, the question remains how I am going to get into my basement, considering that I would have to pass the burglar-proof front door. I guess I'll have to cross this proverbial bridge when I get there.
When I was a kid, my parents used to pull the plug off the TV when they went away, to prevent me from watching too much bad stuff. They locked one end in a savings box with a hole in it. Quite soon I figured out how to pick all kinds of saving box locks, but eventually I was caught and they took the entire power cable away. Nevertheless, I'm still good with locks.
On the other hand, I'm rather bad with cars, because I locked myself out of my car twice in two year. In both cases, I couldn't pick the lock myself, though the second time I tried for almost one hour. Eventually, I had to call the RAC (in Germany it's called ADAC) to open my car for me. Pretty embarrassing.

I just watched the first two episodes of Farscape. Not exactly what I expected, and I don't think I'll keep on watching. The idea is not bad, though: it tells the story of a bunch of intergalactic prisoners, a policewoman and an earthman, running from an evil law enforcement community. There is a lot of Jim Henson stuff going on, and the ship is alive. Quite ridiculous, even for my deranged taste of science-fiction. Nevertheless, there are a some good and funny elements: In the second episode for example, the earthman plays the role of E.T. when he hides in a boys room from people who want to dissect him. That's almost as good as a giant woman climbing up a skyscraper, carrying an ape in her hand (as written in Moving Pictures by Terry Pratchett).
PS: The snow was completely gone when I got home today.
