2007-09-01 Ducks Are Sacred Creatures
Woah, I think I ate too much yesterday! I woke up with a headache and without any hunger. In fact I didn't only skip breakfast, I also missed out on lunch. At first, that is. My grandma has this strange notion that however bad you feel, things cannot be so bad that eating won't cheer you up. In her world, "sick from eating" is a contradiction in terms. Well, after a short nap I felt better and tried some food. Yummy! This year, my dad made the food at my grandma's party, and he passed the test. My grandma said she's officially retired now.
After lunch we looked at holiday pictures: As far as landscape and nature are concerned, my aunt and uncle live in a pretty nice area. So why spend the holiday abroad, they thought, and went to see the south of Germany. And by "went" I mean by foot. They walked 380 kilometers in 13 days. That's almost 30 kilometers per day, every day for almost two weeks. Geez, how cool is that!

What's not so cool is that they've buried the duck pond in my hometown. In the middle of a small forest, there used to be a duck pond. I remember that we went there with the kindergarten once. It was maintained by the local Vogelzüchter-Verein (bird breeder club). I love ducks! They make you laugh by just walking around. Carl Barks once said ducks are sacred creatures. If anybody knows, it's him. Unfortunately, the club seems to have run out of money and members. And now the duck pond is gone. What has the world come to?
