2008-03-05 Medibuntu
Today is full of good news.
I finally managed to playback DVDs on Ubuntu. It's actually very simple, once you find Medibuntu. Thanks Dale! So I spent all evening watching Doctor Who. More about that later.
More good news: My webcam is now working, too. Sorry to all my readers who are not so much interested in programming. My sincerest apology to both of you. But I just have to tell the world what a cool thing I did with my webcam and Gnome:
#!/bin/bash
while [ true ]; do
fswebcam -q -d v4l2:/dev/video0 -r "640x480" \
-F 1 --no-banner --flip h \
~/Pictures/Wallpapers/mirror.png 2>/dev/null
gconftool -s --type=string \
/desktop/gnome/background/picture_filename \
~/Pictures/Wallpapers/mirror.png
sleep 1
done
See what happens? Every second, the webcam captures one frame, mirrors it and saves it to disk. This file is then used as wallpaper. Now my wallpaper is a mirror... how cool is that?!?

What's the opposite of pickup line? Like when someone is dumped with one single witty line. Apparently, there's no word for it. Actually, there are lots of words for that. "Cruel" is one of them. Anyway, this brings me back to the Doctor. Rose left her boyfriend like this:
She (kissing him): "Thank you."
He: "For what?"
She: "Exactly."
She turns around and runs to the Doctor, who waiting in the Tardis.
Ouch.

Is it bad style to start three consecutive with "apparently", "actually" and "anyway", respectively? Was it even worse to end this one with "respectively"? And most important of all: What do I care? I'm no native speaker, how would I know? Ignorance is bliss! Hehe...

Marc, check out your webcam one more time. I'm sure it's not a mirror. A mirror does not swap left and right, your webcam apparently does. If you want a mirror, specify a mirror and develop a mirror. Fix that bug.
Bug? Which bug? There is no bug. Bugs are not a Medibuntu feature. (Click here for details.)
