Undercover Soldier
(written 2007-12-28)
You won't believe where I am at this very moment! Hmmm... let me rephrase this line... I can't believe where I am at this very moment! I'm in the ANC newsroom! Like everything else I've seen on the Philippines so far, it's very real indeed. Today's a boring day as far as news are concerned, but that's fine with me. It gave Kristine enough time to show me around and explain everything before her work began. This place is of course air-conditioned, which means that some people wear jackets. Jackets, imagine that! I didn't eat anything for 24 hours because it's so hot (sorry, mom!), and they are wearing long sleeves!

After work (killing time and distracting Kristine, I mean) we went to this fancy little restaurant called Dencio's, where Kristine and her friends from work sometimes go. Native food: some kind of meat called sisig, fried tuna tail, and adobong kangkong (vegetables). Yummie!
"So, how long have you guys been together?" That will always be the first think that'll come to my mind when I think of Kristine's friend Pat. Obviously, this text was not written on the day of Pat's house warming party, so I don't remember exactly what I thought at that moment. I think I smiled and said we're not together, but Pat kept on asking funny questions. Kristine was genuinely embarrassed, but I just had a good time. If we knew then what we know now, we both would have said something different, though. Parang "day after tomorrow..." :-D
I also met Pat's boyfriend Eri, who's the co-worker of an undercover soldier, the cousin of Adam Sandler (almost, anyway) and a cool dude. And Tina. I didn't get to talk to her as much as I would have liked to, which is sad. Oh, and Zak of course. How could I forget him? He taught us a Norwegian drinking song. Now it was on me to be kinda embarrassed, because I honestly don't know any German drinking songs. Eventually Zak got over his disappointment. Maybe my translation of Rammstein's "Du Hast" helped a little.
Wow. You really read your way through all that? Then you don't really need a summary, do you. Basically, I am happy that Kristine's friends seemed to like me. This doesn't usually come naturally to me.
