2008-05-05 Global Warming, Anyone?

Why did nobody tell me that Christchurch gets so fucking cold in May?!?

Houses in New Zealand are usually made of wood, because of the earthquakes. Wood. They don't even have central heating! Instead, they have electric heaters for every room. Kiwis heat with electricity! Argh!

Today I officially shut down my living room and moved everything into the bedroom. It's smaller and can therefore be heated much more efficiently. Tomorrow I'm going to start looking for a better flat. One with brick walls and a heat pump, preferably. This is ridiculous!

For the first time since I came here I asked myself if coming to New Zealand was really such a good idea. Sure, the language isn't much of a problem, the country is rather beautiful and the people are awfully nice. But the winters, my oh my!
