2009-01-06 Comeback Of The Year

Fanfares and drum rolls! I'm back!

Hmm... what has happened since the last time I blogged?

Kristine came back! And she's still here! Here's the proof.

Next weekend we're going to move. Jiri is kind enough to offer a ride or two, because I kinda haven't gotten around to buying a car. Yet.
I was actually going to buy the car of the people who used to live in our new place. We had it all figured out. We even agreed on the price. And then someone bumped into their trunk and smashed both the car and our plans. Oh well, at least nobody got hurt.

Have I even blogged about Sascha's visit last year? Gee, it's really been a while...

Christmas has come and gone, and so has New Year's Eve. Or so I've heard. We haven't actually experienced New Year's Eve. Not live, anyway. We did what we had to do, and then we kinda fell asleep. First Kristine, who had the decency to go to bed, and then me, who passed out on the couch. That hasn't happened to me since I was... dunno... five or so. So please don't tell anyone!

Oh, about the above mentioned prof: Most of the pictures were taken on three trips we took. The first to Greymouth (a sleepy little town on the other side of nowhere), the second to Hanmer Springs and the third to Auckland. Driving on the left isn't so hard to do after all, and knowing that you've got VIP insurance (which covers everything you could possibly think of) takes the pressure off.

Word of the day: antsy. Sounds cute.

Time for podcast recommendations!

Black Jack Justice and The Red Panda from Decoder Ring Theatre. I'm not going to give a detailed review (because I'm tired and want to sleep soon), so you've got to take my word for it. They rock.

podiobooks.com. Strictly speaking it's not a podcast. It's a huge archive of serialized audio books. But since it's audio and you can subscribe to feeds, it's only fair to put it on the list.

Pretty much everything that Mur Lafferty does. I haven't listen to all of it, but I sure will.

Escape Pod! That's the one that started it all for me. All other podcasts I subscribed to have been mentioned there, directly or indirectly. I'm a particular fan of the geek dad intros, and if I had to pick out a single story, I would recommend The Trouble With Death Traps by Marjorie James.

Enough for today, I really got to go to sleep now.

...and a contract is still a contract. What has a smashed trunk got to do with it???

For a new car, please be sure to consider these: http://www.tanksforsale.co.uk/Tanks_Trucks_Jeeps_for_sale.htm

A BMP-2 is a useful thing to have. Good mine protection and a machine cannon. Fuel hog, though.
In case you're more family-oriented, I'd recommend the SA-6 antiair launcher and radar (two vehicles, both of you can drive to work). Cool design, will get you the attention you deserve.

No offense Salsasepp, but that contract thing is totally German ;-)

We'll definitely consider the BMP-2 when we decide to retire in the Philippines.
